Since Palmer brought out the PDI-03 in the late eighties, I’ve always been a massive speaker simulator fan. In fact, I was the first person in the UK who bought the PDI-03.
A speaker simulator connects between your amp and your cab. It’s normally used to deliver a consistent signal for recording while also giving you the option to reduce (attenuate) the energy going to your cab. This means that you can get that power amp crunch at more reasonable sound pressure levels.
Unlike some, the Sequis Motherload is proper! Let me elaborate; it provides a truly inductive load, err… like a speaker, which means that it responds to what’s going on in the amp, as if the amp was actually connected to a speaker. The more common resistive loads, just aren’t as good, I’m afraid. Electronically, they don’t ‘move’ and hence produce a more compressed as opposed to open sound.
It’s in lovely condition and comes in a smart case. The switches and dials on the front make the Motherload very versatile and it can easily simulate any mic’d cab.
The Sequis Motherload is my only 16Ω load and was used between my old amps and my single Marshall 1960a which of course, is 16Ω. Since I’m selling those beautiful amps and the cab, the Sequis Motherload is another very reluctant sale.
