Sweetcornbread – Biography

Sweetcornbread – Biography

Sweetcornbread songs were written back in 2002 but the band was officially born in 2008, from childhood friendships and a merge of former bands The Expensive Habits and Surveillance State Prisoners.

The distinctive style comes from a crossover of genres. With references to the likes of The Band, Clash and Gomez. You will hear undertones of Americana, Reggae, Funk, Latin and Bluegrass amongst their all-original material.

Since 2010 Sweetcornbread has been performing at independent festivals and venues across the UK. In 2013 they performed live on BBC introducing, and had an early demo of their first full band recording of ‘Fajita’ played on 6music’s mixtape.

Recently the band has self-produced and released an EP and are planning a summer of festivals and debut album promotion for 2017.

The shear energy that the boys generate is quite electric which is amazing as they’re all playing acoustic instruments. Swapping instruments in what appears to be a random manner and indeed lead vocal,s simply adds to the energy of their performance.

Beautifully crafted lyrics, hooky melodies and great riffs all come together to deliver Sweetcornbread’s unique bluegrass sound. The contrast of Bob and Trucker’s laid back mandolin and guitars with Ky’s lightning fast banjo playing just works and is really well put together. Jim’s upright bass again just fits with the boys’ style and Jack’s drums are solid with accents thrown in at just the right places. Never missing a beat, some punchy endings to some of their songs, clearly demonstrates just how well the band know each other.

We weren’t the only ones who thoroughly appreciate and enjoy the band’s music and performance. The following that Sweetcornbread has speaks for itself. Indeed any band would be quite envious.
